Committee Roles & Responsibilities
ATHLETICS
Works with the VP of Athletics to organize events and initiatives relating to on-campus athletics events as well as events in partnership with Chicago's professional sports teams. Committee members will help gather and analyze feedback from events to create “Event Reports” to continually improve and adapt programs and support services.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours per week including biweekly committee meetings; varies according to time of year
COMMUNICATIONS
Works with the VP of the Marketing & Communications Committee to serve as a conduit between GC and the UChicago grad school community through website maintenance, social media and GradGargoyle Weekly content, and collaboration with each committee within GC. This committee requires students interested in project management, cross-functional collaboration, and creative marketing strategy.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours per week including biweekly committee meetings; varies according to time of year.
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
Works with the VP of Community Initiatives facilitate community building across graduate programs and to amplify the voice of graduate students through tailored programming and strategic partnerships.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours/week including biweekly committee meetings; additional hours may be necessary in lead up to events.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Works with the VP of Diversity and Inclusion to center the voices of students from underserved backgrounds, collaborate with existing D&I-focused groups, and establish initiatives geared towards allyship and supporting graduate students from historically underrepresented groups.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours/week including biweekly committee meetings.
FINANCE
Works with the VP of Finance to oversee Graduate Council spending and streamline efforts for the various Graduate Council funding opportunities available to students.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours/week including biweekly committee meetings.
FIRST-YEAR EXPERIENCE
Work with the VP of First-Year Experience to organize events, workshops, and seminars to address the specific needs and challenges of first-year graduate students. Committee members will help gather and analyze feedback from events to create “Event Reports” to continually improve and adapt programs and support services.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours/week including biweekly committee meetings; varies according to time of year.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Works with the VP of Health and Wellness to execute projects and implement programming to improve overall health and wellness for UChicago’s graduate students. They also regularly meet with directors/deans focused on health, wellness, counseling, and disability services to help make University-wide changes. Committee members will help gather and analyze feedback from events to create “Event Reports” to continually improve and adapt programs and support services.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Work with the VP of International Student Experience to organize events, workshops, and seminars to address the specific needs and challenges of international graduate students. Committee members will help gather and analyze feedback from events to create “Event Reports” to continually improve and adapt programs and support services.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours/week including biweekly committee meetings; varies according to time of year.
SOCIAL PROGRAMMING & EVENTS
Works with the VP of Social Programming to plan and execute large, quarterly events that bring hundreds of students together from all divisions. They will also volunteer to help with day-of event logistics. Committee members will help gather and analyze feedback from events to create “Event Reports” to continually improve and adapt programs and support services.
Time commitment: Generally 2-3 hours/week including biweekly committee meetings; expectation to volunteer at the quarterly social event.
