About Us

Graduate Council is the representative student government for the University of Chicago's graduate student population. We focus on building community across the graduate divisions, helping students fund events that support their academic and professional pursuits, and working with administrators to improve graduate student life.

Graduate Council Elections

In the 2020-2021 academic year, Graduate Council formally split from Undergraduate Student Government. Graduate Council now independently conducts its own elections.

CO-PRESIDENTS

Graduate Council President or Co-Presidents are elected by Divisional Student Governments through their respective Graduate Council Representatives.

Divisional Elections

In the 2016-17 academic year, Graduate Council determined that all representatives should be elected by students in their respective divisions and schools. Each school's election rules are unique and reflect the diversity and complexity of our university departments. To learn how your professional school or division elects representatives, please contact your Dean of Students Office.
